LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for Edward M. Borne, Jr. "Papa", 85, who died peacefully on the Octave Day of Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Cornerstone Village South.
Entombment will be in Fountain Memorial Cemetery.
Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels in Opelousas, Louisiana will be the Celebrant for the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services with Monsignor Richard Mouton attending. Giftbearers will be Aimee Landreneau and Claire Walker. Lector will be Brenda B. Verret. Intercessory Prayers will be read by Reneé Borne. Thomas Niel, organist, will be accompanied by Karen Melancon, soloist, who will sing for the services.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marilyn Babin Borne; one daughter, Brenda Borne Verret; four grandchildren, Aimee C. Landreneau, and her husband, Phil, of Lafayette; Eric C. Borne, and his wife Lacie, of Arnaudville, LA; Claire B. Walker, and her husband, Joey, of Austin, TX; and Kevin M. Borne, and his wife, Charmaine, of Baton Rouge, LA; his daughter-in-law, Reneé-Claire Borne; eight great-grandchildren, Jacob, Mary-Grace, Ava, Annelise and Michael Landreneau, Elise and Lucy Walker, and Austen Guilbeau; and one brother, Gayle Borne, and his wife, Marie, of Gramercy, LA.
He was preceded in death by his son, Keith Michael Borne; his parents, Edward M.
Borne, Sr. and Dora Borne; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gustave Babin and Eurline Babin; and his sister, Shirley Troxclair.
Edward was born in Thibodaux, LA, on July 28, 1928. He is a Veteran of the Korean War, having served his country for two years. He has been a resident of Lafayette, LA, since moving here in 1953 after completion of radiology techology school at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He was employed as an x-ray technologist at Lafayette Sanitarium, which later became Lafayette General Medical Center, and retired from his profession after working many years for Drs. Meuleman, Webre and Leonard, orthopedic surgeons. He enjoyed his hobby as a bookbinder for many years, restoring many family heirloom bibles for families across our region, as well as for many church parishes and the Carmelite Monastery.
He was an avid square dancer and round dancer and served as president of the Louisiana Square
Dance Association and also as president of the local See Saws Square Dance Club. He also
enjoyed gardening and traveling. He and his wife spent many post-retirement years fulfilling
their lifelong dream of traveling. They saw much of the United States and he was able to bring
his bride to his beloved Lourdes, France.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Eric Borne and Kevin Borne, Phil Landreneau, Joey
Walker, Chris Verret and John Thibodeaux.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Wednesday, from 9:00 AM until time of service.
A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM on Tuesday in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
