Whitney P. Mouton, Sr.

CARENCRO - Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014 during an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Carencro for Whitney P. Mouton, Sr., age 87, who passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 6:23 p.m. at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.

The Rev. Peter Emusa, Pastor of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, will officiate at the services. Interment will be in Our Lady of Assumption Cemetery in Carencro.

Mr. Mouton was a native of Opelousas and a resident of Carencro for more than 60 years.

He was a loving husband, tremendous patriarch and provider. He is remembered as a praying man with a tremendous work ethic plus a witty sense of humor. His many talents included gardening, raising cattle and cooking extraordinary meals for his family from his own produce.

Mr. Mouton served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an active member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Carencro and formerly served as Trustee. He also fulfilled multiple terms as Alderman for the City of Carencro.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Lela Gordon Mouton of Carencro; three sons, Peter Whitney Mouton, Jr., Carl Mouton and his wife, Gwendolyn, all of Carencro and Mark Mouton and his wife, Lisa, of Sharpsburg, GA; four daughters, Adrienne Varnado and her husband, Keith, of Fayetteville, GA, Angela Horn and her husband, Louis, of Powder Springs, GA, Rachel Mouton of Carencro, LA and Etta Mouton of Fairburn, GA; one son-in-law, John Stevens, Sr. of Carencro; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Joan M. Stevens; a grandson, Byron A. Stevens; his parents, Alphy Mouton and the former, Mary Greene; six brothers, Walt Mouton, Loumas Mouton, Earl Mouton, Doris Mouton, Herman Mouton, Sr. and Harold Mouton; and three sisters, Wilma M. Valien, Irene M. Jackson and Gloria M. Lee.

A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 a.m. Saturday in the church.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until service time at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 410 North Michaud St., Carencro, LA 70520.
