Joseph E. Whittington

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette for Joseph E. Whittington, 80, who passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2014 at his residence in Lafayette surrounded by his family.

Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Keith Whittington; one daughter, Tammy Whittington; and a brother, Mervin Whittington.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Winnifred Whittington; his sister, Felecia Hebert; his brothers, Felton Whittington and Delton Whittington; and his parents, Cleopha and Edith Duhon Whittington.

A native of Duson and a Lafayette resident most of his life, Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was retired having been a dedicated employee of Heymann's Department Store with 37 years of service as a department manager. After his retirement, Joseph worked at Thrifty Way Pharmacy as a delivery person. He and his wife were active parishioners at St. Genevieve Church where they were Eucharistic Ministers serving the homebound. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Pallbearers will be family members.

A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Location.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
