LAFAYETTE - Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette, for Ruby Helen Mallet, 84, who passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 in Lafayette.
Entombment will be held in Calvary Mausoleum.
Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Ruby Mallet was a lifelong resident of Lafayette. She worked side by side with her husband as a landlord to many tenants in Sterling Grove in Lafayette. Ruby played many games of scrabble and cards with her tenants and with her sister-in-law, Evia. She loved animals, especially feeding the squirrels in her yard. Ruby spent many years as a devoted wife, taking care of her husband through a long illness until his death. She was an active volunteer in the Teurlings School Library and with the Boy Scouts. Ruby was very proud of her son achieving his Eagle Scout rank. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Dean Anthony Mallet and his wife Gwen; one step-grandchild, Dawn Melancon; two step-great grandchildren, Kelsie Lauren Melancon and Anthony Salvador Melancon, III; one brother, Whitney Boutin; and two sisters, Patsy Savoie and Annie Young.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Mallet; her parents, Whitney and Eunice Boutin; two brothers, Joseph Boutin and Nolan Boutin; one sister, Rosa Mae Decoux; maternal grandparents, John and Elise Johnson; paternal grandparents, Despaine and Louise Boutin; and one step-grandchild, Bernard Roberts, II.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed in Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand on Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Sunday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Guy, Anthony Salvador Melancon, III, Eugene Faucheaux, Christopher Breaux, Raney Young and James Savoie. Honorary Pallbearers will be Van Vanicor, Raymond Decoux, Joey Boutin, John Boutin, T-Van Vanicor, Konnor Thibodeaux, Whitney Boutin, Jr., Keith Savoie and Steven Hartman.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Hospice of Acadiana and Lafayette General Medical Center, for their compassionate care. Special thanks to Sister Laura Melancon, Father Blair, Anthony Guy and Coco Galle.
