Sgt. Rilton R. "Frenchy" Courvell

LAFAYETTE - June 7, 2014 was a sad day for all who love and honor Sgt. Rilton R. "Frenchy" Courvell, Retired, who embarked on his next and final journey this morning. His life journey leading up to this point was varied and exciting, with many ups and downs. There were happy memories and sad ones.

He wore many hats while serving his country for 20 years in the U.S. Army. He was a paratrooper, a member of the first HALO group, a Green Beret (when the green beret represented an elite group), he was a member of Special Forces and served 3 tours in Vietnam, among other foreign outposts. He earned many commendations, medals, and ribbons. He was an avid traveler, camper, and loved to visit the America he dedicated his life to protecting.

Those left to mourn his passing are his loving wife, Charlene, of only six years, his step-sons, Wayne Forgason (Wanda), Charles Forgason, Michael Forgason (Cassie), his son Cles Courvell and his wife, two granddaughters, four step-granddaughters, three step-grandsons, one great grandson, five step great grandsons, two step great granddaughters, one sister, and one brother.

He was preceded in death by Louise Cormier, his late wife of 52 years, his son Little Ray, his father Clesma Courvell, his mother the former Edith Benoit, brothers Bobby and Vernon, and sisters Theresa and Zoe.

His funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at a 2:00 PM Service in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille on St. Landry Street in Lafayette. Services will be conducted by Pastor Caleb Moran of Metro Life Church.
