LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Douglas N. Harper, age 90, who passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at 3:55 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Bill Melancon, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath, along with Rev. Mark LeDoux and Rev. Andre Metrejean of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.
Mr. Harper was a native of Crosby, TX and a resident of Carencro. He was a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro where he was a member of the Bonne Mort Society, The Legion of Mary, St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Name Society and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6958, having served for fifty six years. He was a past Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion and a volunteer with Food for Seniors. He was a veteran of the military having served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Harper was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor Attack and also served in the Battle of Okinawa.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Prejean Harper of Carencro; two sons, Charles L. Harper and his wife, Patricia, of Carencro and Kenneth R. Harper, M.D. and his wife, Marianne, of Boyce; one sister, Marcia H. Elder of Baytown, TX; four grandchildren, Susan Faul and her husband, Russell, Allison LeBouef and her husband, Blake, Daniel Harper and Timothy Harper; and seven great grandchildren, Mikayla, Laura, Noah, Hayden, Briley, Cole and Reese.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hadyn and Marcia Harper; two brothers, Walter H. Harper and Hadyn N. Harper; and one sister, Willie A. Weeks.
A rosary will be prayed at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and again at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Harper, Timothy Harper, Earl Harper, Blake LeBouef, Russell Faul and Burnell Fontenot. Honorary pallbearers will be Noah Harper, Hayden Harper, Cole LeBouef and Melvin Johnnie.
