Edith M. Willis

LAFAYETTE - Graveside Services will be held in Waco, Texas led by pastor and friend, Luther Burney on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 10:00 am in Oakwood Cemetery for Edith Willis, age 101, who died on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at her daughter's home in Lafayette, LA

Mrs. Willis grew up in Axtell, Texas and married B. B. (Ben) Willis on December 22, 1927. Their married life was the perfect example of a "long-abiding love affair." Most of their married life was lived in Bellmead, a suburb of Waco. She was the mother of two children, Don Willis and Joy Beth Davis (husband, Edwin David Davis, Jr.)

She is survived by her daughter Joy Beth Davis and husband Dave; two grandchildren that she loved and adored, Beth Boehm (husband, Dr. Trey Boehm) and Ben Davis (wife, Julie Davis). She also shared many memories with six great grandchildren; 3 girls, Parker, Allie, and Cate Davis and 3 boys, Henry, Davis, and Carter Boehm.

Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; her son, Don; her parents, Calvin and Genevieve Slayton; two sisters, Agnes and Sybil; and one brother, Irvin.

Nanny was a strong Christian who was a Bible scholar. She loved others and was the most amazing homemaker. She was a gifted seamstress, gardener, and cook who loved her blessed simple life.

Mrs. Willis lived her final years with her daughter and son-in-law and enjoyed her new friends and caregivers. Mary Chevalier was her special friend and family helper. The family thanks those who gave her special assistance including Hilda Brooks, Tammy Brooks, Rose Lilly, and Karen Zeno. During her first years in Lafayette, Bernie Gilley shared Edith's days and helped her adjust to her new way of life. The family also thanks those who offered prayer support through all the difficult times.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Edith to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503 or First Baptist Church, 1100 Lee Avenue, Lafayette, LA 70501.
