LAFAYETTE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 1:00 pm at St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette for Enrique Leonardo Herrera, 73, who passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Visitation will be observed on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm and resumes Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 9:00 am until the time of services, at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.
A rosary will be recited Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 7:00 pm in the Fountain Memorial Funeral Home chapel.
Entombment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.
Father Gilbert Dutel, Pastor of St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate along with, concelebrant, Father Jhaero de Jesus Castano, Coordinador de la Comunidad Hispana de St. Jules.
Enrique was born Wednesday, January 29, 1941 in Guatemala City and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. He attended SLI and graduated from Cal Poly University in California. Enrique worked as an International Trade Consultant & Fluid Engineer.
As being an active member of the community, he enjoyed promoting Lafayette, Louisiana to Latin American countries. Enrique was the Honorary Consul for Guatemala. He was a founding member and officer of the Association Cultural Latino Acadiana (ACLA). Enrique was the recipient of the International Achievement Award in 2002. He was one of two people from Louisiana sworn in on July 3, 1986, at the base of the refurbished Statue of Liberty, during ceremonies attended by President Ronald Reagan. He had a fond love for music, dancing and socializing in the community. Most of all, Enrique loved spending time with his wife, family and friends.
Enrique is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Maxine Ledoux Herrera of Lafayette; three sons, Philip Enrique Herrera and his wife, Kristi of Midland, TX, Juan Carlos Herrera and his wife, Allison and Jose Emilio Herrera and his wife, Susana, both of Lafayette, LA; one sister, Rosamaria Reyes and her husband, Carlos of Lafayette, LA and five grandchildren, Michael Thomas Herrera, Maria Elizabeth Herrera, Emily Paige Herrera, Ashley Kathryn Herrera and Andrea Herrera.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Enrique Herrera, his mother, Laura Aida Estrada and his sister, Maria Elena Paz.
Pallbearers will be Carlos Reyes, Estevan Reyes, Garrett Thibodeaux, Jay Stansbury, Alex Reyes and Pablo Reyes.
