Jacqueline Brewer Fourcade

October 19, 1937 - July 6, 2014

LAFAYETTE - Jacqueline Brewer Fourcade, native of Carencro and life-long educator in Lafayette, died Sunday, July 6, at Courtyard Assisted Living and Retirement Center.

She graduated in 1955 from Carencro High School, received her Bachelor of Music (Vocal Concentration) in 1959 from SLI, earned a Master's Degree in Education, Secondary English in 1969, and an Educational Specialist in Reading in 1973, both awarded from USL (now ULL). She began teaching vocal music at Gretna Junior High School in 1958, and dedicated the next fifty-three years to teaching reading and English at Scott Middle School, Carencro Middle School, and Ossun Elementary, and was an adjunct in both the Reading and English Departments with the University of Southwestern Louisiana (ULL) from 1971 to 2012.

Survivors include Jacquie's sister, Marilyn T. Brewer of Sacramento, CA; one son, Emile J. Fourcade, III, of Lafayette; one daughter, Eileen Fourcade Pizzalato, of Mandeville; two grandchildren, Madison E. Lambert, of Lafayette, and Vaughn P. Pizzalato, of Mandeville; sisters-in-law, Betty Fourcade of Marrero and Antoinette (Toni) Fourcade of Gretna; nieces USN (Ret.) Capt. Michelle A. Guidry of Lexington Park, Maryland, June Fourcade-Fruge', Kim Fourcade-Lehrmann, and Suzanne Fourcade-Lang, and nephews Marcel A. Guidry, Jr., Milburn A. Guidry, John Charles Fourcade, Jr., Keith Joseph Fourcade, James Felix Fourcade, Jr., and Terry Michael Fourcade.

Jacqueline was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Emile J. Fourcade, Jr., of Carencro, her mother Beverly Dupuis Brewer, of Carencro, and her father Jack T. Brewer of Vidor, Texas.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 16, at Melancon Funeral Home in Carencro at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Father Gary Schexnayder, with visitation for family and friends Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
