PEARL, MISSISSIPPI - Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at 10:00 AM in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette, for Maurice Leslie Beard, 79, who passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014 in Pearl, Mississippi. Immediately following the service, interment will be in Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Reverend Jonathan Moore, Pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Morgan City, will conduct the funeral services.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Beard of Pearl, MS; two daughters, Sylvia Beard Roy and her husband Danny Roy of Lafayette and Stephanie Ware and fiance`, Mike Renken of Pine Prairie, LA; three step-children, Tim Cain and his wife Leslie Cain and Wendy Reed and her husband Raymond Reed, both of Brandon, MS and Wesley Chaney and his wife Rebecca Chaney of Bolton, MS; five grandchildren, Destri, Evan, Sadie, Isabel and Isaac; seven step-grandchildren, Brandy, Chris, Audrey, Brooke, Lexie, Brea, Harper and Wren; and two step-great grandchildren, Summer and Lilly.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Dora Ann Douglas Beard; parents, Lawrence Leslie Beard and Alice Evelyn Beard; and one sister, Jean Davis.
Maurice Beard proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He lived in different cities with his family in Wyoming and Utah during the "Oil Boom", making many friends along the way. After 33 years of service, he retired from Chevron in the Acadiana area. He attended church regularly at East Bayou Baptist Church in Lafayette and after recently moving to Pearl, MS, became a member of the Park Place Baptist Church. Maurice enjoyed bluegrass music and playing the guitar, along with many other instruments. He volunteered with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Group and was a former Secretary of the South Louisiana Bluegrass Association. Maurice Beard will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed in Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand, on Friday, August 1, 2014 from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Visiting hours will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until the time of service.
