Marguerite Bigler Primeaux

LAKE CHARLES - A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, for Marguerite Bigler Primeaux, 86, who died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at her residence at Courtyard Retirement in Lafayette. Visitation will be held at Hixson's on Monday, August 4 from 4-8pm and on Tuesday from 10am-1pm, prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow the service at the Lorrain-Derouen Cemetery in Hayes.

Survivors include one daughter, Judith Ann "Judy" Primeaux, of Littleton, CO; one brother, Ret. Gen. William Randolph "Bill" Bigler, of Franklin; twenty nieces and nephews, Sue Bigler Powers of Lafayette; Billie Ann "Babs" Bigler Prentice of New Iberia; Karl James "Jim" Bigler, Jr of New Iberia, Randy Bigler of Atlanta; Cathy R. Sargent of Richardson,TX; Jerry M. Romero of Suffern, NY; Father Mario Marion Romero of New Iberia; Thomas D. Romero of Mexico City; Patrick Romero of Lafayette; Stephen Romero of Lafayette; Priscilla "Prissy" Kearns of Friendswood, TX; Craig Mason Bigler of Baytown, TX; Keith Marcus Bigler of Baytown, TX; Richard Mayer "Dickie" Bigler of Baytown, TX; Glen Carr of Franklin; Elizabeth "Betty" C. Saylor of Lafayette; William "Billie" R. Bigler, Jr of Shreveport, Michael B. Bigler of New Iberia; Terry G. Breaux of Baton Rouge; Walter "Slick" Fisher of Franklin; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Eloi Primeaux of Hayes on 3/11/94; her son, Larry Eloi Primeaux (Teresa) of Lafayette, who recently passed away on 7/15/2014; her parents, Henry Mayer Bigler and Alice Ellen Kappel Bigler of Franklin; four sisters, Alice Juanita "Red" Bigler of Franklin; Rosemary Bigler Romero (Paul) of New Iberia; Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bigler Carr (Tom) of Franklin; her twin sister Marjorie "Maude" Bigler Shinn (William) of Franklin; four brothers, Louis Sebastian Bigler II (Ethel) of Lafayette; Karl James Bigler, Sr (Willamette, "Sis") of New Iberia; Henry Mayer "Tuffy" Bigler, Jr (Billie) of Franklin; Clyde Stanley "Click" Bigler (Jeanette) of Baytown, TX; and two nephews, Stanley Roy Bigler of Baytown, TX and Thomas Keith Bigler of Franklin.

She was born in Franklin and graduated valedictorian from Franklin High School in 1944. She attended Soule Business College in New Orleans and afterwards worked for the Rationing Board during World War II, the St. Mary Parish School Board, and the U.S.D.A Soil Conservation Service prior to her marriage and moving to Hayes. For 47 years she and Eloi were partners together in the operation of their rice and cattle farm. She participated in the Hayes community through volunteer work with the Cancer Society, Heart Association, Red Cross, Home Demonstration Clubs, the PTA and 4-H Club. She was a life member of the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered for many years in the medical records department. She has also been a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, serving in many ways in the local Hayes and Bell City churches, as well as supporting various district ministries and programs such as the McNeese Wesley Foundation, Camp Uskichitto and the Methodist laymen.

The family wishes to extend thanks to the staff at Courtyard Retirement, all of her kind and loving sitters and attendants, and Hospice of Acadiana for their care.
