David Gassie Evers
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 20, 2011 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for David Gassie Evers, 49, who passed away on August 18, 2011 at 1:00 am at his residence.
Reverend Jon Maurer, Pastor of Baton Rouge Vineyard Church, will conduct the funeral services.
Burial will take place in St. John Cemetery.
Mr. Evers, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Morris Lee Evers of Alafia, Florida and the former Dorothy Gassie of Port Allen, Louisiana. From the time he was a young boy, one of his favorite activities was fishing. He was always looking for new fishing holes and a buddy to cast a few. David taught history for several years at USL. Even though he was no longer teaching, David was always ready to share his love of history in general and Louisiana in particular with all who were interested. He was a connoisseur of music, enjoying a wide genre. His bright, inquisitive mind and sense of humor will be missed by his friends.
He is survived by long-time companion, Kim Raines and her son Andrew; two sisters, Molly Stagg and husband Frank of St. Petersburg, FL, and Elaine Hebert and husband Donald of Baton Rouge, LA; one nephew, Frank B. Stagg of Clear Lake, TX; two nieces, Inda Stagg and Col. Marie Stagg both of Reston, VA; great-niece Rachel Stagg and great-nephew Franklin Stagg both currently attending LSU. He also leaves to mourn his many lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Morris Patrick Evers and Michael Lloyd Evers.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Greg Petro, Jess Spiehler, Wade Kee, Rick Gates, Keven Allain, Collin Maine, Eric Jensen, Mike Hart and Mike Bagget.
The family would like to thank those at Paramount Hospice, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and Camelot of Broussard who lovingly cared for David during his illness. We also thank David's close friends who lovingly supported him these last weeks.
