Charles Weir Nolan

LAFAYETTE - Memorial services will be held at a later date for Charles Weir Nolan, 77, who passed away on March 11, 2012 at 1:10AM at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Mr. Nolan was the son of the late James Arthur Nolan and the former Gladys Beadle of Lafayette, Louisiana. He was a life-long resident of Lafayette and graduate of Lafayette High School. He worked in the family machine shop business, serving as president. He served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Delta. Later, he founded Nolan Bearings and served as president until his retirement. He was a Past Master of Hope Lodge 145 F. and A.M.; Past Master of all Masonic upper bodies; Past Patron of Graces Chapter No. 240, Order of the Eastern Star, member of Jerusalem Temple, AANOMS; past board member of Church of the Covenant United Methodist Church; Executive board member of Southern Independent Distributors; has worked with both Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts; fisherman; life-long boater, both power and sail; worked in VITA teaching adults to read. He loved spending time in his shop making wooden toys and doing projects with his grandchildren, offering family and friends help and guidance with anything and everything and cooking for friends at his camp at Cypremort Point. He was a past board member of Cypremort Point Yacht Club and worked with the junior sailing program. He proudly saw his son continue his work teaching young sailors. He was also a charter member and first Commander of the Acadiana Power Squadron and was a licensed Coast Guard Captain.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Diana "Dee" Clark Nolan; one daughter Rebecka "Becky" Nolan Didier and husband Tom and one son Charles "Butch" W. Nolan, Jr. and wife Carice; one sister Wanda Nolan Gates; five grandchildren, Ally and Tim Didier, Emily and Rory Nolan and Zachary Lee; numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends whose lives he touched in so many ways.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother James A. Nolan, Jr.
