LAFAYETTE - John Jeffery Jean-Batiste, 99 years old resided in Metairie, Louisiana for most of his life. He was born to Eve Elizabeth Fils Jean-Batiste and Eraste (Earnest) Jean-Batiste in Loreauville, Louisiana. He lived his childhood in New Iberia and Lafayette, Louisiana before moving to New Orleans, Louisiana.
John lived a full life. He lived and worked in the cities of New York, Seattle, and Vancouver, British Columbia. He was a long shore man during World War II, a chef, a general contractor, and an Insurance Agent for Good Citizen's Insurance Company for many years. He enjoyed music and family and inspired his children to form the internationally known Batiste Brother's Band.
John Jeffery Jean-Batiste was joined in marriage to the late Estella Mae Curtis in New York State. To this union seven sons were born; John (Chareen), David Sr., Paul, Michael (Katherine), Peter Sr., James (Naomi), and Thomas. He leaves behind to morn a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Theresa Jean-Batiste Alexander, Hazel Jean-Batiste, Mabel Jean-Batiste Rawley, Priscilla Jean-Batiste Sordelet and Pierre (Peter) Jean-Batiste and his grandson Tracy Lee Batiste.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint John's Church, 515 Cathedral Street, Lafayette, Louisiana, 70512. Interment will follow in the Saint John Cathedral Cemetery.
