HENDERSON, TEXAS - Funeral services for Mr. H. Dean Cravey, 84, of Henderson, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012 in the chapel of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with Roger Gunz and Ivan Green officiating. Entombent will follow at Rusk County Memorial Gardens under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Howard Dean Cravey was born September 8, 1928 to Martha and Jim Cravey in Harper County in Northwest Oklahoma. Martha died shortly after Dean was born and Jim died September 4, 1940. However, Dean was fortunate to have a loving and caring step-mother in Fae Stubblefield. Fae passed away in 2000.
Dean graduated from London High School in 1947. The class of '47 remained close through the years, enjoying get-togethers down through the years at Dean and Barbara's house until recently. Upon graduation from Stephen F. Austin in 1952, he was drafted into the US Army. However, Dean was selected to enter the Counter Intelligence Corp in Ft. Holabird, MD. Upon completeion of training in CIC, he was stationed in Stuttgart and Berlin, Germany during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the military, he was employed by Sun Oil Co. for 27 years. He accepted early retirement at age 56 and then went into the cattle business in Henderson for several years.
Dean is survived by his loving wife and best friend of sixty years, Barbara Leath Cravey of Henderson; sons, Keith Cravey and wife Elaine of Bangkok, Thailand, Daryl Cravey and wife Becky of Henderson, and Jim Cravey and wife Opur of Thailand; daughter, Julie Cravey Cassity of Springfield, MO; sisters, Earlene Freeman and husband Earl of Chalk Hill, and Dot Cain of Henderson; grandchildren, Keenan and Caroline Cravey, Jason, Jake, and Jordan Cravey, Casey, Jennifer, and Dean Cravey, and Christopher and Austin Cassity; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jason Cravey, Jake Cravey, Jordan Cravey, Christopher Cassity, Austin Cassity, and Keenan Cravey. Honorary pallbearers will be Damon Bassett, Larry Thomas, John Paul Nicholas, Ivan Green, Eddie Overhultz, Jerry Anderson, Lynn Stroud, and the London High School Class of '47.
