John S. Coleman, Jr.

LAFAYETTE - Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Lafayette for John S. "Stu" Coleman, Jr., 87, who died on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at his residence in Lafayette surrounded by his family.

Pastor Joe Daly will officiate the Memorial services.

He leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters, Maggie Rousseau of White Sulphur Springs, MT, Susan Duplechien and her husband, Randy of Lafayette, LA, and Jane Preston and her husband, Dave of The Woodlands, TX; two sons, John Coleman III and his wife, Barbara of Port Orange, FL, and Paul Coleman and his wife, Ellen of Erie, CO; one brother, Edwin Coleman and his wife, Alex; nine grandchildren, Jason Connolly and his wife, Lisa, Melissa Menard and her husband, Troy, Robert Coleman and his wife, Katrina, Olivia Coleman, Ashley Duplechien, Grant Duplechien, Megan Karlsen and her husband, Bjorn, Lydia Irion, and David Preston; and four great grandchildren, Kylie Guidroz and her husband, Chase, Josh Weilbacher, Erica Dufrene and her husband, Riley, and Addisen Jade Menard; and two great great grandchildren, Landon Guidroz and Jonah Dufrene.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Coleman; and his parents, John Stuart and Edna Wiggins Coleman.

John Stuart Coleman, Jr. was born on August 11, 1925 in Jackson, Mississippi and was a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for most of his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He had a long career with Lederle Laboratories and retired after 30 years. Upon his retirement he put his sales skills to work in the oil business.

John's love for the Lord led him to serve others, volunteering for VITA literacy education, KAIROS Prison Ministry and Acadiana Right to Life. He loved his church family dearly and served them in various capacities. He was also very involved in Cursillo retreat activities.

John was a member of the Rotary Club of Lafayette South for many years where he was a former Rotarian of the Year.

John's hobbies included golf, fishing, yard work, gardening, listening to opera and classical music, crossword puzzles, preserving the king's English, political activities, reading, and dining out with family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

The family requests that visitation be observed at Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
