James Allen Skelton, Jr.

LAFAYETTE - James A. Skelton, Jr., age 83, died on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at his residence in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at a 4:00 PM memorial service at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Lafayette, where he was a loyal and active member for 46 years.

Inurnment will be at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension columbarium immediately following the service.

The Reverend Joseph Daly, Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Lafayette, Louisiana, will conduct the funeral services, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Duane Petersen and the Rev. Tom Trees. Robert Cabes, Sr. will serve as Lay Eucharistic Minister. Ann Dobie will serve as Layreader.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mary Buie Crockett Skelton; one daughter, Catherine McCrory Pears of Alexandria; one son, James Allen Skelton, III of Lafayette; and his two grandchildren, Madeline McCrory Pears and Emily Elizabeth Pears.

Jim was born to James A. Skelton, Sr. and Elizabeth Jackson Skelton in Alexandria, LA on August 26, 1930 and was raised in the Latin countries while his father worked for the United Fruit Co. during the depression. His early education was in the tropics of Central America until he entered Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, TN where he graduated from high school. His college education at Texas A&M University was interrupted when he joined the 405 Fighter Bomber Squad during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the United States Air Force, he returned to A&M and graduated in the class of 1954. During his career he worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Puerto Rico as the first manager of an international Goodyear store. He later was an international representative to the Latin Countries for J&L Engineering out of Franklin, LA. Upon returning stateside, he was a pharmaceutical representative for Mead Johnson and later became a Certified Professional Landman in the oil industry.

The family requests that visitation be observed in the Robson Room of the Church of the Ascension on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 3:00 PM until time of service.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be David Crockett, Jr., Todd Crockett, Taylor Crockett, Charles Labouisse, John Faulk, Dr. Russell Theard, Richard Cabes and Robert Cabes, Jr.
