LAFAYETTE - Janice Kay Havranek Heymann, 63, died on August 31, 2013 at University Medical Center in Lafayette surrounded by her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Donna Havranek of Corpus Christi, TX; two sisters, Debbie and Mike Lloyd of Plano, TX and Rene and Steve Kelly of Bellingham, WA; one brother, Jim and Carol Havranek of Corpus Christi, TX; and several cousins.
Janice was born in Omaha, Nebraska on September 15, 1949 to James and Donna Havranek. She was married to the late Herbert Heymann. Known for her sharp wit and strong personality, Janice was a prominent business woman, city council president, and philanthropist who worked hard to support the city she loved, Lafayette, Louisiana. Jan served as President of Lafayette City Council for two terms in 1984-1988 and 1988-1992. She also served as Chairperson of the City Council 1986-1987. Jan loved to introduce and present new ideas and decorations while working at her Bayou-land, which was a successful business with wrought iron furniture, artifacts, and Christmas life size decorations.
She loved traveling, the arts, and collecting Asian antiques, rugs and more. Jan would do her homework to learn and have an understanding of the areas she would travel. She would bring back memories and artifacts she collected along her journey to introduce and share with others.
Jan had a great love for the Louisiana Oak trees and animals. She would find ways to save the trees and find homes for unwanted animals. Jan was a good friend, sister, daughter and neighbor and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
