LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Harold L. Butcher, age 83, who died on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at his residence in Lafayette.

Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.

Reverend Monsignor Robie Robichaux, Pastor of St. Leo The Great Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Aimee Mayer, Heather Rabeaux, Shandra Hoyle, Emily Borne, Joshua Butcher, Matthew Butcher, and Benjamin Davis. Steven Landry, vocalist, accompanied on the organ by Rafael Henry, will sing for the services.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Anna Belle Marks Butcher of Lafayette; one daughter, Mary Margaret Butcher Davis and her husband Joseph; two sons, Glenn Gerard Butcher and his wife Sherry and Frank Edward Butcher and his wife Yvonne; eight grandchildren, Shandra Norris Hoyle, Eric Norris, Matthew Butcher, Emily Davis Borne, Benjamin Davis, Heather Rabeaux, Aimee Mayer and Joshua Butcher; eight great grandchildren, Logan Hoyle, Katelynn Hoyle, Elizabeth Hoyle, Victoria Broussard, Ethan Rabeaux, Lauren Rabeaux, Sophia Mayer and Max Mayer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank V. Butcher and the former Evangeline Potier; his siblings, Hortense B. Boudreaux and Ashton Butcher and one grandchild, Sarah Butcher.

Mr. Butcher was born on September 10, 1930 in Lafayette, Louisiana and was a lifelong resident of Lafayette. He was a veteran of military service and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and Naval Reserve during peacetime. Mr. Butcher retired from First National Bank of Lafayette in 1980 where he served as an Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager. He was a member of St. Leo The Great Catholic Church. Mr. Butcher was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, traveling, and camping. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and he will be dearly missed by all of his loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Butcher, Frank Butcher, Joseph Davis, Joshua Butcher, Matthew Butcher, Benjamin Davis, Mark Borne, and Michael Marks.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Brian Rabeaux, Matthias Mayer, and Eric Hoyle.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 8:00 AM until the time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home, by the St. Leo The Great Ladies Altar Society.

The family would like to give special thanks to Harold's doctors and nurses, especially Dr. Angela Snow, his caregivers with Hospice of Acadiana and to Rosina Davis Jackson and Yolanda Martin for their kindness, compassion and gentle care to Mr. Butcher and his family during their time of need.
