L.J. was a great leader, mentor and friend.
He hired me fresh out of Georgia Institute of Technology (Ga Tech) to work on new technologies in MPD2.
Later he financed our startup Cypress Semiconductor and many other technology companies.
My life would have been very different without him having touched my life.
He´ll always be remembered.

My condolences on your family's loss, in Mr. Sevin's passing. I've just received a copy of Mr. Sevin's excellent book, 'Field Effect Transistors' and can attest to it's quality, usefulness in the field, and his clear mastery of the topic. I hope he may somehow know, that his work is still greatly appreciated. Best wishes, T.A.

I worked for LJ in the 70s at Mostek and in the late 80s at Cyrix. As a salesman, I never worked for another CEO who treated his salesmen with more respect. He used a razor sharp wit to get and keep our attention. Our customers loved him. I think I can speak for all in sales who would say we truly enjoyed working for him and would do anything he asked. As a new Catholic convert I am glad to pray for the repose of LJ's soul and for comfort for his family and friends. LJ will be missed by us all.

Dear Jo: I was out of town and was unable to attend L. J.'s funeral. While we were not close during the past few years, we were during the early years of Mostek. The challenges during this time were many and required close cooperation and mutual respect and confidence. While we went our respective paths post Mostek, I continued to respect and admire his successes. I visited L. J. about a year ago and enjoyed the visit. Please let me know if I can ever be of help or assistance to you (and by that I don't' mean professional help as I retired from that several years ago). By the way Jo, I also have always had great respect for you and I wish you the best over the coming years. Respectfully, M. D. Sampels

Dear Jo and family: I am probably L. J's oldest friend. I am 90 now and was a neighbor and friend of L.J. since he was born. He & his brother Wallace filled my life with pleasant memories. My prayers are for you and your family.

My condolences to you and your family.
I worked for L.J. in 1968 at TI. and shared
a patent with him, on a capacitor pull up
shift register bit.
He always had a sense of humor, our office space was very crowded and the rumor was that every so often someone had to move their desk out into the hallway. L.J. took this to the extreme and placed a plastic urinal on the wall in his office to make it look like they had made him move his office into the restroom. I was a, green behind the ears
engineer, but L.J. made always made me feel at ease.
I am sad to hear of his passing.

In the mid-1960s at TI, I was assigned to work for LJ. His project was to use the known instabilities of MIS (metal-insulator-silicon) transistors to make adaptive devices. I learned so much from him about MIS devices. I was privileged to work with him then and realized later how much these early experiences enhanced my own capabilities.
LJ, the design engineer who was supporting this project and I became part of the newly established MOS department in TI's Semiconductor Research & Development Labs. We were active in that department, along with many super people, until 1969. I moved to Houston with the MOS department; LJ did not move. At some point during or after the move to Houston, MOSTEK was formed.
In 1972, I hired in as manager of the first MOSTEK fab area in Carrollton. (The fab area I was managing in CA was making one of MOSTEK's popular designs as contract work.) I believe LJ had a lot to do with my receiving that offer. The next years were exciting ones for MOSTEK and for the Carrollton effort. LJ was truly a pioneer in IC development, especially MOS, AND in successful applications and products using MOS ICs. It was a privilege to know him and to work in organizations that he led.
I offer my sincere condolences and prayers for his family.

L.J. set the bar high for everyone who worked with him or for him. And we are better for having known him.

LJ was an incredible mentor to me and many others at Mostek and later for me when we started Cypress Semi. He was a great man and leader who helped so many of us grow further and faster than we thought possible. He will be missed by all of us whose lives he touched with such grace and wisdom.

I will always be grateful for the Leadership and advice given me as a Mostek employee by Mr. L.J. Sevin. I had the privilege to work under his direction for 11+ years and learned very quickly that he was a most honorable man who really cared for those around him. Go with God and Rest In Peace.

Dear Jo,
I first knew L J when I was an undergraduate at LSU with L J as my instructor (that was quite the experience), then later as a fellow engineer at TI, and even later as my boss at Mostek. Throughout his extraordinary career and life L J contributed so much in so many ways to so many. He is remembered in his outbursts of frustration, easy humor, honest confrontation, and caring for every individual.
It is good to know that he is now at Peace still loving you and his family.

I had the good fortune of knowing L.J. during the formative years of my professional career, as a member of our Board of Directors at Convex, and throughout the later years as someone I worked with in the technology investment sector. I have always valued L.J.'s guidance and insight, and he is someone who left a lasting, positive mark on my life. He will be missed, and my condolences to the family and his many friends.

Jo and family,
God threw away the mold when he made L. J.
He and I both loved the comic strip "Pogo" and got much enjoyment from reading it.
L. J. was, shall we say, irascible, but underneath it all he was a soft touch. Although I hardly saw him anymore, I will miss him.

I worked for LJ as his Secretary in the MOS Dept. at Texas Instruments in late 60's/early 70's and knew him to be a caring, honest, dedicated, hard-working man who viewed his employees at part of a team, not just employees. To his family, I'm so sorry for your loss! Although I had not seen him for approximately 45 years, he will be missed, just knowing that he is gone.
