Lucas, James Richard  
Lucas, James Richard, age 30, of Stephensville, TX, passed away on March 23, 2015. He is survived by his father & step-mother James D. & Renita Lucas, his mother Brenda L. Olding, his sisters Raeann Orlowski & Kelli Engels, his grandmothers Beverly Lucas & Ramona Olding, he was a beloved son, grandson, brother, uncle and a loving nephew, cousin and friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers James C. Lucas & Jack C. Olding and his aunt Colleen L. Millet. A memorial service will be held at: Freedom Church on Hwy. 16 in Watson, La., on April 2nd at 6 pm. A go fund me site has been set up to aid with funeral expenses.

Maten, Jessie Mae  
Jessie Mae Maten, a native of Pointe Coupee Parish and long time resident of Baton Rouge departed this life on Friday, March 19, 2015. She was 83 Years old. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Seretha Faye Maten; two sons, Clyde J. and Hollis J. Maten; five sisters, Ella Marie Bourgeois, Georgia Adams, Lubertha Fields, Joyce Williams and Rita Ann Martin and Diane Parker of Hartford, Connecticut; four brothers, Milton Harris, Wilfred Harris, Russell Bourgeois, and Lucus Hoffman; two grandsons whom she raised, Rodney Perkins and Hollis J. Green. Religious service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Star Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1204 St. Joseph Street, Baton Rouge, LA - Rev. Henry J. Brown, Officiating. McConnell, Tamara  
Tamara died on March 19, 2015, at Carpenter House in Baton Rouge. She was born August 30, 1945. Tam was a retired librarian with thirty years of service with the East Baton Rouge Parish Library System. She was a graduate of LSU and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was survived by two brothers, Stokes McConnell and wife Noy of Baton Rouge and Eric McConnell and wife, Jeanie of Sumpter, SC. She was also survived by a niece, Jill McConnell White and husband Thomas of Greensboro, NC; nephews, Neal McConnell and wife Mandy of Kentfield, CA and Patrick McConnell of Santa Monica, CA; and three great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Claude Stokes McConnell and Tena McCoy McConnell. Tam enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and tending to Raspy, her beloved cat. Tam's family thanks her caregivers, the staffs at Baton Rouge General Medical Center and The Carpenter House for their care and support and a special thanks to her dear friend Jeanell Strickland, for her tireless devotion to Tam during her illness. Riley "Cannon" McKinley Sr. departed this life on Tuesday March 17, 2015 in Fayetteville, North Carolina at the age of 70. He was a native of Clinton, La and a lifelong resident of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Miles, Mark Edward

Mitchell, The Rev. Royce J.  
The Reverend Royce J. Mitchell, a priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, died on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. He was the son of Mrs. Agnes Mitchell Davis, and the late Flem G. Mitchell, Sr. Father Mitchell was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and spent his early life in North Georgia. During World War II, he joined the United States Navy and served two years of sea duty as a signalman in the North Atlantic with the Naval Armed Guard and with Commander of Carrier Division Four Flag Staff. After the war, he returned to Georgia and entered the University of Georgia, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. At the University, he was elected to the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He attended graduate school at the University of Tennessee and received a Master of Science degree. Father Mitchell worked for twenty-five years in Atlanta, and called Atlanta his home, where his family resides. He worked as an analyst at Southern Motor Carriers Rate Conference and as the Secretary and Tariff Publishing Officer for the Perishable Tariff Bureau. He was a part-time instructor in economics and transportation at the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia. A convert to Catholicism, he studied for the priesthood at Notre Dame Seminary and graduated with a Master of Divinity Degree in May, 1974. He returned to his home parish of Sacred Heart Church in Atlanta for ordination, where he was ordained by Archbishop Hannan on March 30, 1974. As a priest he served as an associate pastor at St. Monica, St. Leo the Great, St. Agnes and St. Louis King of France parishes. While stationed at St. Agnes, he served as administrator of the parish upon the death of Monsignor Brue. Father served as a co-pastor of St. Lawrence the Martyr and St. Louis King of France parishes and as pastor of St. Gabriel the Archangel Church. He was assigned as the Director of Administration at Notre Dame Seminary for two years. He served on the Seminary Finance Committee and the St. John the Vianney Evaluation Committee in 1984. Father Mitchell served as chaplain to the residents of the Chateau de Notre Dame apartments and nursing home. Also, he served for two assignments as the Catholic chaplain at Southern Baptist Hospital. He worked as a volunteer in the HIV and AIDS communities. For his service to people with the HIV virus and AIDS, he was awarded the Randy Gidding Award by the Board of Directors of the New Orleans People with AIDS Coalition in March, 1993. In 1997, he was presented by the NO/AIDS Task Force with "A Partnership for Life" Volunteer Service Award. He considered this award as one of the highlights of his volunteer priestly ministry.He was a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity, the Delta Nu Alpha professional transportation fraternity, and a Certified Member of the American Society of Traffic and Transportation.
