Amilca Frederick "Coach" Fontenot

A retired teacher and coach and owner of Brittney Enterprise business, he died of esophageal cancer at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at his home in West Monroe. He was 80 and a native of Acadia Parish. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force (Lackland AFB-San Antonio, TACH instructor, member of Lackland AFB fast pitch baseball and member of Military National Championship team. Visiting at Ardoin's Funeral Home, Eunice, on Wednesday, Jan. 2, from 9 a.m. until service at 2:30 p.m. Interment in Ortego Cemetery, Mamou. Survived by his spouse, Brenda G. Fontenot; daughter, Deborah Blackwell; stepdaughters, Tabitha Hales and Cindy Russell; son, Steven Fontenot; stepson, Waymond Hales; son-in-law, Claude Blackwell Jr.; sister, Clarene Thibodeaux; brothers, Lawrence Fontenot and A.J. Fontenot; grandchildren, Claude "Tripp" Blackwell, Jamie Blackwell and Mitchell Fontenot; stepgrandchildren, Zach Hales, Mariah Hales, Claire Hales, Brittney Poole and Nicholas Russell; great- grandchild, Morgan Blackwell; stepgreat-grandchildren, Kohan Poole and Jaylyn Poole. Preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Rose Belle Fontenot; brothers, Roland "Bubbie" Fontenot and Clarence L. Fontenot Jr. He received a B.S. in education: Northwestern State University masters degree in administration: LSU played minor league baseball for Los Angeles Dodgers, coached American Legion baseball, baseball and football at East Ascension High School, business owner-Brittany Enterprise and Safety Marketing Co. (1979-present) and was an avid duck hunter and sportsman.
