Claudia "Barbe" McMahon left this life in peace on April 16th, 2013, after an intrepid battle with breast cancer
. She was born on April 11th, 1948, to Rhett Russell, Sr. and Yvonne Barbe McMahon, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by two siblings, Diane Dabria, spouse of Dave of Windermere, FL. and Rhett Russell McMahon, Jr., spouse of Ann of Silver City, New Mexico; and a very dear cousin, Judy Barbe, of Stuart, Fla. Without a doubt, Barbe lived her life to the fullest, challenging all boundaries to the utmost. Her education began with a solid foundation at St. Joseph Academy, class of 1966. Many of those classmates gathered or sent remembrances of her on her recent birthday. They reminisced, laughed and ate huge slices of her favorite buttercream cake, recalling her remarkable braided hair, her creativity making crepe paper grapes for the sophomore dance or her special bourbon balls during their senior year. She received her Bachelor's degree, a proud Ragin Cajun, from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, then known as USL. She met her "bestest" friend and co-heart, Freddie Abdella, during those undergraduate days and he has stood the "CCP" test of time these 40+ years. Many thanks, also, to her remarkably patient and loving caregivers, Geneva and Martha. Along with Kathy Calmes, a special neighbor and confidant who has always been there for her, add JoAnn Landry and Ashley Sciortino, through thick and thin. And last, but certainly not least, Brenda Catalanatto, a dear friend and trusted business adviser. One thing was for sure when you saw Barbe coming in those ubiquitous plaid shirts, an adventure was going to happen! Her face, bright with her unique smile, she spread cheer, sprinkles of stars and confetti with many other eccentric gifts that only she could conjure up. Join us for a celebration of her life. Visitation, with eulogy and prayers, will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, on Friday, April 19th, 2013, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved Father and Mother. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Joseph Academy or Hospice of Baton Rouge in her memory. Rabenhorst Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
