Danny Arnold Obituary

Danny Paul Arnold passed away on February 3, 2015 at the age of 65 at his home in Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his father Henry J Arnold. He is survived by his wife Eileen Arnold, mother Pearl Arnold, sister Cheryl McKinstry (Tom); two children, Matthew Arnold (Nicole) and Jessica Gill (Byron); and three grandchildren, Sidney, Lucas, and Madeline Gill. Danny will also be missed by Eileen's family in England who all loved him dearly. The family would like to thank and recognize the hard work and kindness of Dr. Bienvenu and all of his staff that treated Danny at the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War spending the majority of his deployment in Germany. After his service he worked as a welder in numerous states before returning home to pursue his true passion of being a blacksmith. He opened his own shop in Baton Rouge and called it Arnold and Anvil Blacksmith Shop. He proceeded to make furniture, fences, and other fine pieces of art. A lover of wrought iron, bass fishing, and the Grateful Dead, Danny was truly one of a kind. Memorial service will be held at Green Oaks Funeral Home on Friday February 20 from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center would be appreciated. Friends and family may sign the online memorial or leave a personal message to the family at www.dignitymemorial.com.

Danny was "The Starsman" in the Society for Creative Anachronism in the 70's. He showed up one day at our house - known at the time as "castle house" and signed in the house journal, "The Starsman has arrived." I was glad to know him then, and always smile when I think of him. Sad to know he has departed, but he'll never be forgotten by any of his SCA friends.

Dear Eileen,

After our phone conversation, I wanted to memorialize my thoughts about Danny. After you left New Jersey we did not see you both, but through phone and email Danny is fondly remembered. He and I were on the same page politically and we both had trouble understanding the "English" in the British TV shows. He also had a wonderful southern voice. John and I extend our deepest sympathy on his loss and may God grant him peace.

We shall remember Danny as a "big" man. When we first met him in England he was dressed all in black leather and sported a thick beard., He described himself to our young boys as "meaner than a monkey with a machine gun"! Truly memorable! A distinctive personality whom we came to like a lot. Our condolences to all the family.
