James Chustz Obituary

He was born November 3, 1923, and passed away peacefully on April 13, 2012, at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. He was 88, a native of Erwinville, La., and a resident of Baton Rouge since 1950. James retired from Exxon Mobil with 43 years of service. James is survived by his wife of 68 years, Annette Molaison Chustz; three daughters, Carolyn M. Chustz, Nettie (Puddin) Chustz Smith and Larry Cunningham, Deborah Chustz and husband Keith J. St. Romain; eight grandchildren, Stephen and Amy Rice, Sean and wife Deborah Horn, Jason Horn and Michelle Peavy, Monica Horn and Jeff Whittington, Ashley and Chris Worley, Matthew and Ngoc Smith and Christopher Michael Smith; five greatgrandchildren, Cody and Jessica Horn, Logan and Rocky Smith and Lucy Belle Worley; brothers, Lytle and Roger Chustz; and sisters, Melba David and Gayle Denova. James was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2807, former Grand Knight, member of the 4th Degree Knights and a State Squire Chairman for many years. He was a member of the Exxon Mobil Istroumaland Annuitant Club. He loved duck hunting and fishing at his camp at False River and breakfast at Frank's Restaurant, and was an avid gardner. James was a very kind and loving man who also had a gift of telling jokes. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him. James was preceded in death by his parents, Leontine Damare' and James Ferdinand Chustz, Jr.; brother, Francis Glenn (Buck) Chustz; and sons-in-law, Hartwig Andrew Schuyten, Troy Edwin Smith and John Leonard Horn. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Monday April 16, 2012 from 9am until service at 12 pm, conducted by Deacon Richard Grant. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jason and Sean Horn, Stephen Rice, Keith St. Romain, Jeff Whittington and Ron Garner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Cunningham, Christopher and Matthew Smith and Christopher Worley. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Stephen Brierre and caregiver, Linda Slaughter. In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made to American Heart Association or charity of your choice.

He took our Dad in like he was his own for quite some time when our grandmother was gravely ill. I hope to be half the man he was. I miss him but wouldn't take him from where he is right now for anything.

My sincere condolences for the loss of Mr. Chustz. I worked with JF in the Baton Rouge Refinery during the 70's. I'm still gratful for all the help he provided to me and all that I learned from him. I pray that God's grace will abound and His presence will abide with you during this time.
