Nellie Anderson Thomas

Nellie Anderson Thomas, 77, was called home to the loving arms of our Lord Jesus at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013 while at her residence. She was a native of Corner, LA and resident of Clinton, LA. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Nellie was also a Justice of the Peace for East Feliciana Parish. She had served in that position for the last 22 years. Additionally, she was a Notary Public. After 36 years of service in the East Feliciana Parish School System, she retired and became a foster parent. For more than 20 years she provided tender loving care to a multitude of children, and in 1996 was given the honor of being named Foster Parent of the Year for both East and West Feliciana Parishes. She is survived by her daughters: Brenda Thomas-Nero (Melvin L. Nero), Baker, Wanda T. Williams (Edward B. Williams, Sr.), Clinton, Marcy T. Robinson, Clinton, Sierra L. Thomas, Greensburg, Cassandra W. Bradley, and Shelita Henry, Baton Rouge; a nephew that she reared as a son, Willie B. Thomas, Clinton; grandchildren: Melanie Nero Vallien (Michael Vallien Jr.), Fonda N. Nero, Tiffini A. Robinson, Edward Williams, Jr. and Addarius Williams, Carl Thomas, Marion T. Gransberry, Aaron Bradley, Jr., and Ilana Martin; great grandson, Kristopher M. Vallien; daughter-in-law, Willie Etta Thomas, Zachary; sisters: Alice A. Headley (Leon Headley, Jr.), Washington, DC, Dr. Harriet A. Pitcher (Judge (Ret.) Freddie Pitcher, Jr.), Baton Rouge, Kelly A. Jackson and Clara A. Henderson, Clinton; sister-in-law, Elizabeth T. Anderson, Baton Rouge; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Norwood Thomas, Sr.; stepdaughter, Johnnie T. Robins; stepsons, Clyde Thomas and Norwood Thomas, Jr.; parents, Willie Anderson, Sr. and Harriet B. Anderson; a sister, Odessa A. Wilson; brothers, Jesse Anderson, Willie Anderson, Jr., Ruben Anderson, Howard Anderson and Lee Guster Anderson, Sr. A worship celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 6148 Gilead Road in Clinton. Visitation will be on Saturday, 9 a.m. until religious services begin at 11:00 a.m., conducted by Rev. Johnnie Turner. Interment will be at the Anderson Memorial Gardens, 7863 Highway 961, Clinton.
