Dell passed away peacefully with his family by his side, after a great battle with brain cancer on August 1, 2013 at the age of 60. He is survived by his sister Beatrice Ann, brothers Gustave Blancand married to Lisa, and Alan Timothy married to Margaret Tobi. He was the loving uncle to Nicholas, Alexander, Ashton, and Abbeygail Flair. Born October 25, 1952 in New Orleans, he was the oldest child of the late Albert Dell (Al) Flair, Sr. and Betty Blancand Flair. Dell graduated from Sam Barthe School for Boys in 1971 and from the Capital Page School (Washington, D.C.) after having served as page to the late F. Edward Hebert and the late Hale Boggs. He received degrees from both Louisiana State University and Charity School of Nursing. His love of people and sports started at Sam Barthe and led him to LSU, serving as athlete training under Coach Charlie McClendon for 4 years. Dell cherished his time working as a surgical nurse at Tulane Medical Center, and Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. His time in the OR prepared him well for Steris Corporate selling sterilization equipment to Hospitals in the Southern region. As a trainer and nurse, Dell loved taking care of people and will be remembered for his compassionate and loving touch. In 2009 Dell was inducted into the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame. Services will be held at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, La. on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11:00am. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00am Interment will be in Metairie Cemetery following services at the Funeral Home.
