Charles E. Higgins, Sr. was entrusted into God's care on March 7, 2013 at Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary, LA. He was a resident of the War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA for only two months prior to his death. Mr. Higgins was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on January 15, 1918. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until service at 11:00 a.m. led by Dr. Terry Ellis. Interment to follow at Greensburg Cemetery, Greensburg, LA. Mr. Higgins was a resident of Liberty, Mississippi for many years along with his beloved wife, Jessie. Prior to that they resided in Texas and elsewhere in Louisiana and Mississippi. He retired from Humble Oil as a shift supervisor in 1971. He was a World War II Veteran having attained the rank of Major. He was awarded the Bronze Star and made combat jumps as a paratrooper. After his retirement Mr. Higgins became an accomplished home builder in Texas and Louisiana always with his beloved Jessie working by his side. He was an expert vegetable gardener and provided his family with home grown vegetables for many years. He always was ready to help his neighbors and friends when they needed anything. He was a member of the Istrouma Lodge for 57 years as a 32nd degree Mason. He was a devoted husband and father. He is preceded in death by his wife of over 65 years, Jessie Faye, a son, Charles E. Higgins, Jr. and mother, Ruth Johnson Stephens. He is survived by two daughters and their children and grandchildren, one son and his children and grandchildren: Jessica and her husband, Mike Robinson and their children, J. Michael Robinson, Jr. and his wife, Michelle and their children, John-Michael III, Tyler and Ryan. Jonas Mark Robinson and his wife, Leigh, and their children, Jake and Tilley. Joel Matthew Robinson and his wife, Jennifer and their children, Joel, Jessica and Maddie. Ruth and her husband Kenny Goodman and their children, James Kenneth Bueche, Jr. and his wife, Sheetal and their children, Logan and Malini, Charles (Chuck) Joseph Bueche and his wife, Sonya, and their children, Collin and Chloe. Ryan Goodman and his wife, Ellen and their children, Travis, Kade and Jack. Stephen Wallace Higgins and his wife Dyanne (Bryant) and their children, Jeremy Stephen Higgins and his wife, Tara and their children, Baylie, Hannah and Cade, Frank (Jay) Story and his wife, Michelle and their children, Gabe, Daniel, Michael and Harper Holmes, and Brandi Cummins and her husband, Jean-Luc and their children, Mitchell and Brinley Claire. Also Mr. Higgins' grandson, Rodney Higgins and his wife, Kay and their children, Jessica, Katie and Jacob. He is also survived by two special nieces, Wendy Seidel of Fort Collins, CO and Heidi Bookout of Oklahoma City, OK. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. The family wishes to thank the many staff members at the War Veterans home for their gentle care and kindness and the wonderful nurses at Lane Memorial Hospital (2nd floor south) for the care of our father during his last days.
