A native of Central, and resident of Port Allen, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2013. He was 82 years old, a retired supervisor at Dow Chemical, and an Air Force veteran. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria Bergeron McDaniel; a daughter, Mary Ann McDaniel Hotard and husband Charles; three sons, Michael Joseph McDaniel, Robert Randall McDaniel and wife Jamye, Patrick McDaniel; a sister, Dorothy McDaniel Lofton; eight grandchildren, Amanda McDaniel Wilson, Melissa McDaniel Young, Cheyenne McDaniel Landry, Joey McDaniel, Aaron Major, Rachel Hotard, Elizabeth Hotard, Taylor McDaniel; and nine great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Walter and Neta McDaniel; grandchild, Alexis McDaniel; brothers, Walter Jr. and Billy Rae McDaniel. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2875, American Legion Post #160, Veterans Administration. He worked with the Special Olympics as well as City and Parish youth organizations. He was a member of the Bayou State Rabbit Hunters Federation. Visitation will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Rev. Father Matt Loraine. Interment in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Brusly. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Down Syndrome Awareness Group of Baton Rouge, P.O.
