Edward Bane Robert, Jr. died at home on August 29, 2013, age 78 years. He was the only son of Dr. Edward Bane Robert and Alberta Emily deBlanc Robert and was born in Natchitoches, LA on November 10, 1934. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1956, where he was a member of the Friars and the Zeta Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a line officer in the Navy where he served as navigator and operations officer at sea in the Pacific, Atlantic and the Caribbean and is qualified as a veteran of the armed forces. Upon his honorable discharge from active duty, he worked in New Orleans in the offshore drilling industry and operated his own consultancy in that industry until the time of his death. He was a member of the Huguenot Society in the City of New Orleans, the Society of the Founders of the City of New Orleans, the Society of the War of 1812 in Louisiana. He is a direct descendent of Louis St. Denis, the founder of Natchitoches, the oldest settlement in the Louisiana Purchase and the Reverend Pierre Robert, the first Huguenot minister to come to the new world in 1682. An avid outdoorsman, he was also a member of the National Rifle Association and Ducks Unlimited. He is survived by two sons, Timothy Bane and Jonathan Edward, two daughters, Laura Elizabeth and Rachelle Emily Robert, seven grandsons and two granddaughters. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service after cremation at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions requested to Covenant House of New Orleans or to the Rampant Lion Foundation of Delta Kappa Epsilon International would be appreciated.
