Franklin Brevard Hayne III, age 74, died at home on Saturday, July 20, 2013, following a well fought battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Susan Dunn Hayne. Father of Karen Hayne Freese (Doug), Melissa Hayne Schulz (John), Gretchen Hayne Riddle (Mark), Jennifer Hayne Coats (Jon), and Alycia Poitevent Hayne. Grandfather of Paul, Ashley and Madeline Freese; Jonathan Hayne; Annika Schulz; and Isaac and Ella Rose Riddle. Brother of C. Peck Hayne (Pam) and loving uncle to their children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by his son Franklin Brevard Hayne, IV (Karen) and his parents, Franklin Brevard Hayne, Jr. and Helen Peck Hayne. Frank was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a graduate of Tulane Law School and received his BS in mathematics from Yale University and MS in mathematics from Sonoma State University. Known for his wide ranging interests, Frank was especially fond of running (completing 35 marathons), theoretical mathematics, the Russian language, and reading, and he was a lifelong HAM radio operator, W5AHS. He was an active member of Trinity Church and participated in the men's bible study group. Also, he was strongly committed to pro bono work as part of his law practice. Frank cherished his wife, Susan, and their children and grandchildren, loving and supporting them always, and he and Susan opened their hearts and home to their many friends and extended family. The family offers special thanks to Sister Dulce of Baton Rouge for her love and healing prayers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Ave., New Orleans, LA 70130, with a service to follow at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Metairie Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or to Tulane Cancer Center with Sartor Research notated on the donation.
