George A. Lee Sr., 88 years old of Hammond, La., passed away, Monday, January 14, 2013, at Heritage Health Care. He was born on Wednesday, March 12, 1924, in Tylertown, MS, son of the late Sandy Lee and the late Eulice Sommers Lee. George served in World War II from 1942-1945 as a medical technician; earning a gold medal for bravery, a purple heart medal, bronze star and a bronze arrowhead medal. After being honorably discharged from the United States Army; he served as a volunteer for Ponchatoula and Hammond Fire Departments for over 53 years. He also worked for Holsum Bread for over 30 of those years. Mr. Lee was also a member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Hammond. Surviving are son & daughter-in-law, George and Kathy Lee Jr., son & daughter-in-law, Stormy and Denise Lee, daughter & son-in-law, Linda and Jim Fendlason, grandchild and husband, Mindy and Chris Canning, grandchild and husband Lindsey and Blake Calmes, grandchildren, Jody, Jacob, and Rainey Lee, grandchild and wife, Chris and Marla Fendlason, grandchild and husband, Rebekah and Millard Ledford, great-grandchildren, Lynden, Parker, Caitlin, Preston, Ansleigh, Landon and Bentley, sister Ruth Peltier and step sister Edith Greco. He is preceded in death by his wife for over 60 years Erma Louise Cutrer Lee, step mother Pearl Lee, sisters Pat Sance and Barbara Combetta, father-in-law and mother-in-law Dick and Jody Cutrer. Friends will be received Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Hammond. Services will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Hammond, Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens Hammond, Louisiana.
