George Robert Lyles Sr. Obituary
George Robert Lyles, Sr. passed from this life on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born in 1931 in Flint, Michigan to Ruth and Robert Lyles, he moved with his parents to Jonesboro, Arkansas while in high school where he met Ann Forrester, who became the love of his life. George and Ann married in 1951, and shortly after that, George, a lieutenant in the Marine Corps, left the U.S. to serve in the Korean conflict. In 1955, the Lyles moved to Baton Rouge for George to attend Louisiana State University, where he obtained his master's degree in chemistry. George is survived by his children and their spouses: Larenda and Jack Roberts of Thousand Oaks, California; Roberta and Steve Turner of Victoria, Texas; and George Robert "Bob" and CeCe Lyles of Baton Rouge. He is survived by seven grandchildren and spouses: Allyson and Will Ohman of Mesa, Arizona; Clint and Katrina Roberts of Phoenix, Arizona; Melissa and Dustin DeBusk of Greeley, Colorado; Aaron and Sarah Turner of Victoria, Texas; George Robert "Rob" and Stephanie Lyles of Baton Rouge; Charles and Sam Lyles of Baton Rouge. Five great-grandchildren: Jack and Annabel Ohman, Julia and Harper DeBusk, and Belle Turner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Lyles, and his beloved wife of sixty years, Ann Lyles. A member of the Goodwood Boulevard Church of Christ, George served as an elder there for more than three decades. He was a dedicated Christian throughout his life. In his final note sent to family and friends before going into surgery, George admonished them to "continue to love the Lord more and learn to love each other more." Visitation will be held Saturday, August 30, 2014, from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, followed by a memorial graveside service. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial donations be made to Alzheimer's Services of Greater Baton Rouge, in memory of his wife, Ann Lyles. Family and friends may sign the online memorial or leave a personal message to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.
