Gerald "Jerry" Huey Marchand passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Friday, June 20. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Kron Marchand, son Matt Marchand and wife Susan, son Paul Marchand and wife Gloria, daughter Tena Marchand Watts, and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Alvin Joseph Marchand of Luling. He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin J. "Bully" Marchand and Clotilde Gaudin Marchand. In 1949, Jerry graduated from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge. He was awarded a football scholarship to the university of Notre Dame, but was drawn back home to LSU, where he earned a masters degree in 1955. Following an illustrious football career, he was named All American and was inducted into the LSU Hall of Fame. He also played in the Senior Bowl and The Blue Grey bowl where he was named MVP. He also played baseball at LSU and was named to the LSU all century baseball team. In 1972, Jerry was inducted into the Catholic High School Grizzly Greats, and later in 2013, into the Catholic High Hall of Fame. Jerry also served his country as a member of the U. S. Army at Fort Sill Oklahoma as a Lt. Colonel. Jerry had a 42 year career with Lamar Outdoor Advertising Company as president of the Outdoor Division and Regional Manager. He was inducted into the Outdoor Advertising Association of America Hall of Fame 1995. As a result of his passion of hunting and fishing, Jerry was a long time supporter of the Coastal Conservation Association and Ducks Unlimited. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home downtown. 825 Government Street, Monday June 23 from 5 to 8 pm. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, June 24 from 10 am to 1 pm at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2021 Stuart Avenue. A memorial mass will follow.
