A resident of Roseland, he died on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. He was born March 5, 1923 in Roseland and was 90 years of age. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He was a member of Roseland Baptist Church and a member of Amite City Masonic Lodge #175 for 54 years. He is survived by 3 daughters, Anna Lee S. Alford (David), Kentwood, Carolyn S. Cardaronella, Independence and Julie S. Eudy (Donnie), Ponchatoula; 11 grandchildren, Jennie A. Hatchel (Dr. Boyd), Prague, Czech Republic, Jason Alford (Becki), Rome, GA, Toby Cardaronella (Rhonda), Albany, Timmy Cardaronella (Tara), Roseland, Jeffrey Cardaronella, Ponchatoula, Jeremy Cardaronella, Independence, Lacey Todora (Phillip), Amite, Casey Stuart (Josh), Independence, Melissa Parrino (Andrew), Gonzalez, Adam Hayden, Amite and Kristin Eudy, Ponchatoula; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Naomi Orr (John), Sulphur Springs, TX and Eva Smith, Phil Campbell, AL. Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Draughon Smith; parents, Grant R. Smith, Sr. and Lyla Liddle Smith Hendry; grandson, Aaron Hayden; 2 brothers, Charles H. Smith and Alfred E. Smith.
