Gutman "Gus" Cranow passed away quietly on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital at the age of 91. He was a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of New Orleans and resided at Nottingham Regional. As a Corporal in the U.S. Army, he served during WWII. He graduated Northwestern University majoring in journalism. He worked as a producer at WAFB and WBRZ and was also a journalist for the Louisiana Department of Tourism in which he wrote many articles promoting Louisiana tourism. He then retired from the state after working for the Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness. Beloved father of Kenneth Cranow and spouse Amy Cranow (Baton Rouge, La), Jeanine Bankston Hudgins and Dusty Hudgins of Austin, Tx, beloved brother of Zelda Korol of Chicago, Il., and grandfather to 7 wonderful grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Simon Cranow and Jennie Gelman Cranow and sister, Edith Birnbach. Gus enjoyed life and was always optimistic until the very end. Graveside service will be held at Liberal Cemetery on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at OLOL and Nottingham Regional for the wonderful care that was provided.
