James Edgar Hundemer, a life-long resident and native of Baton Rouge passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. He was born on February 26, 1926. His parents were Charles Christian Hundemer and Martha Diekmann Hundemer. He was the founder and president of James E. Hundemer and Associates, a marketing and advertising firm with varied clients, primarily in Louisiana. He attended Tulane University and LSU where he graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Like many in his high school graduating class of 1943 he enlisted in the Navy. He entered flight training in Pensacola, FL in 1945, separated from active duty and returned to civilian life to complete college in 1949. Soon after he entered the active reserves and trained as an air intelligence officer, completing many assignments including two tours of post-graduate study at the Naval War College in Newport, RI. He was eventually appointed to command several air intelligence production units in support of the Fleet Intelligence Center in Europe. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1986 with the rank of Captain. Mr. Hundemer was involved in a number of civic, professional and social organizations including past boards of director memberships in Volunteers of America, Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation, Sigma Chi Alumni Association, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Baton Rouge Catholic Diocese Editorial Advisory Board, Catholic High School Alumnae Advisory board, Baton Rouge Junior Achievement (past president), Baton Rouge Junior League Advisory Board, American Legion Post 38 and Baton Rouge Boys Hole, Girls Hope. He was a former commissioner of the Baton Rouge Airport District and a member of the Baton Rouge Rotary Club and the Baton Rouge Country Club. In 1978 he was invested into the order of the Knights of St. Gregory the Great by Pope John Paul II. The Knights of St. Gregory are the best known Pontifical Order in the United States. He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Joyce (Bootsie) Duke; son Charles Christian Hundemer II and his wife Kelly Sherman of Arlington, TN; daughter Holly H Perry and her husband Dr. W. Brian Perry of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Katherine, Patrick and Austin "A.J." Perry, Jonathan Taylor Hundemer and Samantha Paige Hundemer. He is preceeded in death by his parent, his brother Charles and his sisters Marie Louise Dick and Martha Jumonville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to or the .
