Passed away early Wednesday morning, Jan. 23, 2013, at his home. He was 87 and a resident and native of Donaldsonville. He was a former resident of New Orleans and a U.S. Army veteran. Poncho, as he was affectionately called, was a retired supervisor of grounds and physical plant at Dillard University of New Orleans. Visiting at Demby & Son Funeral Home, Donaldsonville, on Monday, Jan. 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visiting at Greater Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, Donaldsonville, on Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Timothy Campbell. Interment in Protestant Cemetery, Donaldsonville. Poncho leaves to mourn his passing while embracing his memories: wife, Yvonne W. Parker; two daughters, Carzette Parker-Poche (Harry), of Donaldsonville, and Yvette Washington (Edward), of New Orleans; three sons, Lawrence Parker, Jr., of Champaign, Ill., Everrett Parker, Sr. (Barbara), of Baker, and Demaris Parker, Sr. (Lisa), of Gonzales; brother, Willie Parker (Philippines); three brothers-in-law, Nolan Washington and John Banks, of New Orleans, and Mervin Gaines (Phyllis), of Jonesboro, Ga.; cousin, Mary Jones, of Donaldsonville; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and former colleagues. Poncho was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Martha Parker; siblings, Ben Parker, Jr., Margie Gray and Wallace Parker; sisters-in-law, Albertine Kelly, Gertrude Washington, Audrey Kinchen, Althea Moore and Josephine Washington; brothers-in-law, Joseph and Albert Washington; his children, Cheryl, Donna, Avis, Kenneth, Sr. and Kevin Parker and former wife, Henrietta Gaines Parker.
