Loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, he passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 29, 2012. He was 66. He was a native of Los Angeles and resident of Baton Rouge. He was a retired Baton Rouge Police Officer, having served 28 years and retiring with full honors. Marty also served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy. He continued to work part time at BREC Fitness Center after his retirement. He enjoyed watching arena football and attending games. Visiting will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Monday, December 3, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting will resume on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until religious service in the funeral home chapel at noon. Burial to follow in Oak Lane Memorial Park, Prairieville. He is survived by his adoring wife of 10-and-a-half years, Darlene Smith Berman; two daughters, Jerilynn Melancon and husband, Richard, and Lorrie Blanchard and husband, Brett; step-daughter, Angel Marino and husband, Anthony; son, David Berman; brother, Jay Berman and wife, Irene Machuca; grandchildren, Julie, Rachel, and Ross Melancon, Brandt and Alexis Blanchard, and Jo-E, Brodie, and Kollin Marino; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Smith and his wife, Kathy, and Donnie Smith and his wife, Linda; sister-in-law, Lisa Smith; and his two adoring dogs, Sandy and Charlie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Thelma Collins Berman, and a brother, Richard Berman.
