Mattie "Madeline" Stewart Wascome, a resident of Slaughter, died on Sunday, February 10, 2013, after a 12 year battle with breast cancer, surrounded by her loved ones. Visitation will be at The Rock Church in Zachary, LA on Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 8am until services at 10am, conducted by Pastor Rocky Bezet. Burial will be at Port Hudson National Cemetery. She is survived by three daughters: Sue Ellen Howland and her husband Alan; Helen Braswell; Kristy Phillips and her husband Mark; two sons: Terry Wascome and his wife Angietta; Jeffrey Wascome and his wife Tammie; twelve grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her life-long friends that she enjoyed camping and playing games with. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "JD" Wascome; her parents John and Odessa Stewart; three brothers and five sisters. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
