Nelson J. Heltz entered into rest on Wednesday, August 28, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Albertine Goeddertz Heltz. He was the third child of the late Amedee and Palmyre Roussel Heltz of Paulina, LA. He was also preceded in death by his eight siblings; Ruth Abreo, Gladys Henderson, Grace Roussel, Eunice May, Daniel Heltz, Helen Lambert, Emile Heltz and Edna Heltz (infantile polio). He is survived by his daughter, Brenda H. Perronne; two grandsons, Christopher M. and Kevin R. (Gina) Perronne; great grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Perronne, Kevin and Joshua Sage. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Heltz served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He witnessed the raising of the American Flag at Mount Surabachi and was also at Nagasaki, Iwo Jima and other battle zones as m/m 1st class. Once he left the military, he worked at General Motors in Flint, Michigan. Upon his return to the New Orleans area he was employed at Chrysler in Michoud, LA and later at Shell in Norco for 28 years. After his retirement he resided in Hammond, LA. For the past 13 years he has spent the majority of his time with his devoted daughter. Mr. Heltz was a member of the American Legion Tucker Gregoire Post 258 in Springfield, LA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Monday, September 2, 2013 beginning at 9:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 1:00 PM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home's chapel.
