Paul Edwin Humes quietly joined his daughter in heaven early Sunday morning, March 9, 2014. Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd., on Friday, March 14, 2014 with Rev. Brad Franklin officiating. Visitation at 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. Born November 19, 1942 in Colville, Washington, Paul attended Kettle Falls High School and later earned degrees from Washington State University and Oregon State University. He joined the faculty of Louisiana State University in 1968 and retired in 2009 as Director of the School of Animal Sciences. Paul was an animal lover; fitting and showing cattle while in high school and at WSU, judging livestock shows throughout the South and caring for his small herd of Brangus cattle in Mississippi. Paul enjoyed being with people and never met a stranger, be it a young 4-H Club member, a student passing through J.B. Francioni Hall, a cattleman met anywhere in the United States or a fellow educator in the foreign countries he visited. He was a member of the Downtown Kiwanis and looked forward to the yearly Pancake Breakfasts. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church and of Rings 'n Ivy Sunday School. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Tamra Lickfold Humes, a son, Steven Humes, a sister, Jeanne Charlton, a brother, Jim Humes and numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. He was a kind and gentle man. All who knew him will surely miss him. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Krista Leigh Humes, his parents, Thornton "Stub" and Dorothy Humes and a sister, Erna Mederios. Entombment will take place this summer in Washington.
