RICHARD F JOFFRION, 80, of Baton Rouge, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Mr. Joffrion passed away peacefully at the Nottingham Regional Care Center in Baton Rouge after suffering briefly from leukemia. Born on October 28, 1933, Richard was the eighth and youngest child of Leonard Morgan Joffrion and Juanita Noel Joffrion of Donaldsonville, Louisiana. He graduated from Ascension Catholic High School, attended Nicholls State College, and later graduated from a Chicago school of interior design. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a patriot to the end. Richard wore his flag pin daily, and proudly displayed the American flag outside of his door. Mr. Joffrion worked for D. H. Holmes department store in New Orleans and Houma for 30 years. In addition to being their top in-store display designer and manager, he will be remembered fondly by thousands of children as the store's most beautiful singing Santa Claus. He loved Christmas for all the joy that it would bring. "Uncle Richard" was the life of every party he attended. Whether he was serving champagne, arranging the décor, singing to the guests, or telling stories, everyone left happier than when they entered. He loved to make people happy. That was his gift to all who knew him. Mr. Joffrion was preceded in death by his longtime companion Joaquin Avila of Merida, Mexico, and by his brothers Ray, Morgan, Olin, and Robert Joffrion, and sister Connie Joffrion Folse. He is survived by his brother Virgil Joffrion, Sr. of Donaldsonville, Louisiana, his sister Geraldine Joffrion Lofton of Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. His effervescent spirit, joie de vivre, and his artistic talents will be celebrated on May 16, 2014 at a noon Mass at Ascension Catholic Church in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. Family visitation will held in the church at 11 am. He will be buried privately at St. Jude Cemetery in Belle Rose, Louisiana.
