Robert Cleve Wight Sr., 71, of Baton Rouge, died Wednesday, March 13, in St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston . Born July 13, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio, he graduated from Carthage High School, Carthage, Tx, in 1958, and received a BS in chemical engineering from the Texas A&M University in 1962. He was part of Squadron 4 during his time at A&M. He married Patricia Johnston on June 6, 1964 in Groves, Tx . He worked for Nalco Chemical Co. in Freeport, Tx, Sugarland, Tx and Garyville, La, for 38 years before his retirement in 2000. He held three patents for Nalco. Bert enjoyed woodworking, fishing with his wife and sons, watching A&M and LSU football, and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a lifetime passion for learning, especially of science and history. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert S. and Ruth S. Wight; and a sister, Barbara G. Wight. Survivors include his wife, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. Jr. and Andrea P. Wight of Houston, Tx.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason P. and Martha M. Wight of College Station, Tx; a sister and brother-in-law Alice R. and Danny J. Mitchell of Trinity, Tx; four grandchildren, Robert C. III, Bradley J., and Andrew C. Wight of Houston, and Alessia M. Aparicio-Malapi of College Station; his wife's brother and sister-in-law, Troy and DeAnna Johnston of Toledo Bend, Tx. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the Hilltop Arboretum in Baton Rouge. The family will host an informal reception at the Arboretum to share remembrances beginning at 5:00 p.m. Friends, neighbors, and family are invited to attend; casual attire is requested.
