Ronald Erle Sheffield, 42, of Prairieville, died Saturday, November 24, 2012, surrounded by his loving wife, Juliana Brown Sheffield and daughters, Rachel and Mary Anne. Ron is also survived by his father, Ronald Davis Sheffield and sister, Lynn (Kevin) Dameron, of Thornburg, Virginia; father and mother-in-law, Phil and Mary Lou Brown and grandmother-in-law, Virginia Pierson, of Natchitoches; brothers-in-law, Phillip (Ann) Brown, of Prince Frederick, Maryland and Tim (Jessica) Brown, of Covington, LA and many treasured extended family members. Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. He received his education at Unity College, Unity, Maine (B.S.), Virginia Tech (M.S.), and North Carolina State (Ph.D.). He has been a professor in the LSU Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering and LSU AgCenter since 2008. Prior to working for LSU, Ron worked for the Extension Service at the University of Idaho and North Carolina State University. Ron was active in Boy Scouting for many years, attaining his Eagle and then volunteering as an adult leader. Most recently he found his passion through the Kairos Prison Ministry in Idaho and also in Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Payne Sheffield; grandparents-in-law, Julian and Mary Rose Brown, and Ed Pierson. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the doctors and staff of The Neuromedical Center, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, and The Carpenter House at St. Joseph's Hospice for their care during his illness. A service to celebrate Ron's life will be held Wednesday, November 28th, 3:00 p.m., at University Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Patty Snyder and Mike Watson officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service.
