Sherry Howard Scardina, the East Baton Rouge Parish School System Supervisor of Gifted and Talented Services and a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, died on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. She was 60. Sherry lived her life dedicated to her family and educating elementary, intermediate and high school students. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd. Friday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Visitation will resume Saturday at St. George Catholic Church from 9:00am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, celebrated by the Rev. Michael Schatzle. Entombment in St. George Catholic Church Mausoleum. Survived by her daughter: Kristy Corey Scardina; her son: Hayden Daryle Scardina & wife Caitlin of Baltimore, MD; parents, Merle and H.D. Howard, Baton Rouge; Sister, Debbie Howard Davis, Huffman, Texas; Grandchild Sheridan Kenneth Scardina; and numberous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Kenneth Daryl Scardina her husband of 25 years. Pallbearers will be her nephews Derick Scardina, David Wade Jr., Gardner Wade, Daniel Kracht, Christopher Richards, Kale Purdom, Brian Goad, and Carl Kennedy. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and earned her B.A and M.A. in education from Louisiana State University. She was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was a member of the Baton Rouge Association for Gifted and Talented Students. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to the Wounded Warrior Project.
