William Yancy Tickle, age 88, of Metairie, La., passed away on Thursday, 10/10/2013 at SELA War Vets Home. He was born on 1/24/1925 in Mooresville, N.C. to his parents, John Tickle and Willie Knight. William was the oldest of 5 children. He married Luella Wille Tickle in Waukegan, Illinois on 4/20/1945. They had 6 children. He served in the U. S. Navy for 4 years. A veteran of WWII, he earned Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and the American Area Campaign Medal. He was a long-time resident of Metairie for 75 years. He was employed by Gordon's Transports, Delta Cartage, and various other trucking companies. as a Dispatcher for 50 years. William was a member of Metairie Ridge Presbyterian Church, Marine Corps League and The American Legion. He enjoyed bicycling, fishing, and repairing things for other people. Bill Tickle always had a smile and a corny joke. He could fix anything and used those talents to help anyone. William will be remembered by his loving children: Pamella Roig (Frank), Michael Tickle (Jamie), Ben Tickle (Dianna), Digby Tickle (Kathy), Peggy Campo and Dottie Tickle. He is also survived by his brother James (Jim) Tickle; retired Colonel/USMC, his sister Carole Brittain, and two nephews, Gary and Nathan Brittain, 15 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. Predeceased in death by his wife, Luella Wille Tickle, foster parents-Eugene H Barrios and Ursula Shubert Barrios, father-John Calvin Tickle, mother Willie Mabelle Knight, brother Howard Tickle, son-Eugene C. Tickle, and grandson Jonathan Tickle. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Funeral service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, La. 70124 on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM.
