Retired Co-Owner of Gonzales Collision Analysis & Reconstruction, a former PE teacher at St. Theresa of Avila in Gonzales, LA., where she also coached eighth grade basketball and led a group of hard working young ladies to an eighth grade championship. Recipient of the Dale Carnegie Course Highest Award for Achievement. A native of Jackson, MS., and a former resident of Gonzales, and current resident of Watson. She was 72 years old and passed away on March 6, 2013. She was a proud sponsor and member of the the Live Oak High School Eagle Backers. She had a true passion for basketball and enjoyed traveling and watching her grandchildren play in various sporting events. Even more, she enjoyed the Lord, thanking Him for another miracle day as she battled cancer. She would witness to people how she was in a win win situation each day she lived, in that she could live to glorify His name, and when she passed, she knew she would have eternal life. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on on Monday, March 11, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until religious service at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Belhaven Head Football Coach Joe Thrasher. Interment in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales. She is survived by two sons, Randy and his spouse Johanna of Central and Wade of Watson. Grandchildren Ben, Brittany, Brooke, Bethany, and Rachel Gonzales and Thomas Eddlemon, a brother Gayle Burdette and his wife Jerri, a sister Kay Kelley and her husband Terry, brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Pat Gonzales, of Prairieville, Sam and Barbara Gonzales, of Dallas, and Burton and Jane Gonzales, of St. Amant, numerous nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by her husband of 50 years Alfred Gonzales, her parents Howard and Webbie Burdette, and brother, Bruce Burdette. Pallbearers will be Ben Gonzales, Travis Kelley, Austin Stears, Joe Thrasher, Art Hill, Donny Distefano. Honorary pallbearers are the Belhaven Football Team, Delta State Lady Statesmen Softball team and the Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves Softball team, Matthew Danna and Buck Johnson. Thanks to Dr. Fredrick Billings and Dr. Maurice King and their staff, and Feliciana Home Health East, and Bobbie Cotton and Dana McBride of Bridgeway Hospice who provided a loving & caring transition. Special thanks to family friends Ann Lea, and to Wes Grimes for his friendship and guidance through Joan's battle. A very special thanks to Jan Bradley and family friend Lisa Hill who provided unconditional loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
