A Funeral Mass will be conducted for Emoor Samuel (Sam) Bordelon, Jr. on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Ranzino officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. A party in celebration of his life will be held immediately following the Mass. A private burial service for family members will be conducted in Greenoaks Memorial Park at a later date. Sam was born on May 9, 1931, the son of Emoor S. Bordelon, Sr. and Catherine Mary Mayeux. He passed away at age 81 at Ollie Steele Burden Manor on Monday, January, 14, 2013 after a brief illness. Sam lived a truly Christian life in the service of others. After graduating from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge in 1948, he became a Brother of the Sacred Heart and taught school in Alexandria, Donaldsonville, Thibodaux and Mobile. He then yearned for a greater spiritual life, and became a Dominican monk entering an abbey in Alabama. After a number of years, health reasons forced him to leave the abbey, after which he accepted a teaching position in Soda Springs, Idaho, where he taught school for 32 years. He retired in 1993, and returned to Baton Rouge to care for his mother during the last years of her life. For the past 20 years, he has been a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and was involved in many ministries, always promoting the love of God. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Emoor and Catherine Bordelon, and his sister, Ann Marie Zachary. He is survived by his brother, Jerry M. Bordelon & wife Rose of Covington, WA; his sister, Mary Catherine Garon and husband Dr. Joseph Alvin Garon of Reserve, LA; his beloved cousin, Mrs. Diane Bezdek of Greenwell Springs, LA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to extend our sincerest gratitude to Dr. Patrick Gahan and his staff, nurses and staff at Ollie Steele Burden Manor and the Hospice of Baton Rouge for their loving care in his final days. He was a blessing to us all, and will be sorely missed. Rabenhorst East, 11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, is in charge of final arrangements. It is the wish of the family that, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge, 9063 Siegen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA 70810.
