Helen was a native of El Dorado, KS where she spent her early years. She completed her education in New Plymouth, ID prior to her marriage. She was a retired Medical Records Administrator from Earl K. Long Hospital. She died February 22, 2013 in Baton Rouge, LA at the age of 91. She is survived by four children and their families: Dell and Robin McLeod of Portland, OR; Jan and Gary Benson of Touchet, WA; Virginia and Dale Lowery of Washington, DC and New Orleans; and David and Carol Goldsmith of Baton Rouge. Also survived by two sisters, Verene Friend and Peggy Carte of Portland, OR and a brother Roy Friend of Manti, Utah. She is survived by nine grandchildren and their spouses: Katie Hanson-Dorr and Brian Dorr, Sarah and Wayne Losavio, Tegan Hanson, Morgan and Patrick Michaud, Raymond Benson, Will and Susan Goldsmith, Daniel McClung and Teegan Boruch-McDonough, Cameron Hanson, and Davy Goldsmith III. Also survived by six great-grandchildren: Caroline, Margaret, and Anne Losavio; Riley and Tyler Goldsmith; and Titus Clemens. Preceded in death by beloved husband of 66 years David W. Goldsmith, parents Anna and Earl Friend, brothers George, Stanley, and Darryl Friend and sisters Geneva Evans and Anna Belle Bollinger. She was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Southeast Ministries. Donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at BUMC. She will be greatly missed. Memorial services are pending and will be announced at a later date.
